It is with enormous pain and sadness that I had to learn about the early passing away of my and our dear friend Israel. I have an endless number of unforgettable memories with him over many years in Grenoble and also during my stay in Israel. He was such a joyful, positive, colorful and entertaining person with a wonderful multitude of great stories.

He came a few times to Tallahassee, and we had a great time together developing plans about quantum computing, exploring the quantum Hall effect, how to access the internal fields, student exchange, organizing a conference, establishing a high-field research facility at his laboratory, and so on.

He was very close to my heart and the sad news fill me with sorrow and grief. I will never forget him.
